What is Dramatherapy?
Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy that utilises drama and theatre processes to achieve therapeutic goals. In Dramatherapy participants are supported to use creative expression to explore their stories, set goals, solve problems, express feelings and improve their mental health.
Dramatherapy can help build confidence and self-esteem, address communication problems, promote a sense of self-worth, and encourage involvement, expression, and connection with others.
I currently run individual and group Dramatherapy sessions for children, young people and adults. I am experienced with running Dramatherapy groups in residential children's care homes with both young people and staff working together.
For further information below is a video of Lauren discussing her previous work with young people in a pupil referral unit.
do I need to be good at drama or acting?
Dramatherapy is very inclusive and is able to meet with the needs of most clients. It is not necessary to have any experience of theatre or acting to benefit from Dramatherapy and it can be helpful if you find ‘talk’ somehow limiting or challenging. Dramatherapists can support the therapeutic process by offering creative ways to explore any issue that you may wish to engage with, be it emotional, physical, educational, cultural, or otherwise.
who is it for?
Everyone can benefit from the creativity Dramatherapy offers. I can offer Dramatherapy sessions for children, young people and adults with a variety of presenting needs. Sessions are usually 60 minutes and can be delivered either face to face at The Treatment Space in Hope Valley, Riverside Wellbeing in Whaley Bridge or online depending on the needs of each client. Group sessions can be tailored to suit the needs of the group and can take place online or face to face.
A full referral and assessment process will be undertaken. Therapy can be short term focussed or longer term depending on individual needs. I have extensive experience with the following client groups trauma, abuse, shame, mental health difficulties, self harm, autism, behavioural and learning difficulty, attachment disorder, anxiety, low self-esteem, shame, grief and care experienced young people.

LIFE SPAN INTEGRATION
I offer individual Life Span integration therapy sessions for adults and children in person and online. Lifespan Integration (LI) relies on the innate ability of the body-mind to heal itself. There are many different LI protocols. Some protocols heal birth trauma and or pre-verbal trauma, and others heal attachment deficits which may have occurred during specific stages of development. All protocols include repetitions of a Time Line of memories and images. Viewing repetitions of one’s ‘life review’ both integrates past experience and proves to the client’s body-mind system that time has passed. This ‘proof’ occurs at a deeper level than is possible with commonly used cognitive behavioral 'talk therapy' methods.
